Spiritual Practice Development Coach - Practical Solutions to Everyday Problems

This entry was posted on Tuesday, November 4th, 2008

Developing spiritual practice is a challenge for almost everyone. Given the breadth of potential applications – from overcoming malaise, conquering limitations, even managing your finances – one must first determine precisely what he or she seeks.

There are people out there who call themselves a spiritual practice development coach. To put it in perspective, consider who a personal coach is.

Personal coaching aims to benefit everyone involved, as opposed to sports coaching that is focused on a win-or-lose parameter. A spiritual practice development coach works with you so you both attain established goals.

While dealing with a spiritual practice development coach can be therapeutic, coaching differs from therapy. You visit a therapist when you know you have a problem and seek solutions.

A spiritual practice development coach discusses your needs and challenges and helps decide whether you have a problem, what precisely it is, and how you can work together to fix it. It’s a partnership.

As with most personal coaching experiences, a spiritual practice development coach spends much of initial sessions listening. Mostly you begin by doing most of the talking, while the spiritual practice development coach asks a series of open-ended questions – a sort-of discovery phase.

Not Always About Faith with a Spiritual Practice Development Coach

Not every spiritual practice development coach focuses on faith. Certainly religion can play a role, but people often engage personal coaching to address other life needs.

For example, you may seek assistance to handle change, manage stress at work, deal with troublesome emotions such as anger or anxiety, or implement new behaviors. The spiritual practice development coach does not necessarily have to guide you toward a specific faith.

In fact, some of the greatest religious leaders this century – the Rev. Martin Luther King and Mahatma Gandhi come to mind – developed their spiritual practice while transcending the boundaries of their own faith.

It can be a great challenge for a spiritual practices development coach: most of the time we define our own spiritual practice.

Spiritual Practices Development Coach in Various Aspects of Life

The news media recently offered fascinating glimpses into how one might develop his or her own spiritual practices to address life challenges.

For example, a horoscope for Scorpio for Oct. 23 to Nov. 21, 2008 notes “You have trouble being grounded today. Be sure you have enough sleep, so this doesn’t interfere with clear thinking. In spiritual practices, emphasize those which promote awareness and focus.”

A spiritual practices development coach may offer such advise for a variety of life challenges.

A reader of the Home News Tribune of East Brunswick, New Jersey, submitted an article in October 2008 about developing spiritual practices to deal with record-poor financial markets. Some of the tips could come from a spiritual practices development coach.

In troubled times, the reader wrote, “people look towards spirituality for guidance. The cornerstones of all spiritual practices can be used as a model for solving today’s financial problems.” Again, a list of lessons provided could be the words of a spiritual practices development coach, including:

Determine the principles that will guide your (financial) behavior; focus on the present; simplify; let go of guilt and blame; and appreciate what you have.
